Welcome back to all of our returning families, and if you are new to our school, Welcome!
The first day back to school for Grades 1 through 5 is on Tuesday, September 5 at 9:00 am.
- Returning students will line up outside in their last year’s locations and be welcomed by their last year’s teacher, or the new teacher who will be working in that classroom.
- New students to Margaret Jenkins will come to the library to be placed with a temporary division.
Dismissal on the first day is 11:30.
Kindergarten students start school on a gradual entry. Thursday, September 7 is the first day. Students will either attend from 9:30 – 11:00 am or 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Details of which group your child has been placed will be sent in an email. Friday, September 8 is a half day from 8:40 – 11:50 and Monday, September 11 is the first full day from 8:40 – 2:48.
Over the first few days we will be taking attendance to report enrolment numbers to the school district. Once numbers have been finalized, we will be able to move students to their classrooms for the year. All going well, we hope this can be done on Thursday morning in time for our Kindergarten students to arrive.
School supplies can stay at home until your student receives this year’s placement. Wondering whether you should label your student’s supplies? In general Kindergarten classrooms and often grade 1s will pool supplies for common use. If in doubt which way your child’s class will go, please check with the teacher.
Please pack a recess snack and full lunch each day.
Unless rain is very heavy, students will be spending recess and lunch times outside. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
The school communicates predominantly via email. The office sends out a Weekly Update every Friday. If you are not receiving the Friday messages, please contact the office to ensure your email address is correct.
If your child is going to be late or absent please call our Call-Back line 250.598.7151 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If your child will be away for an extend absence, please let the office know and we can mark you away for the whole time period at once.

Also on the school website is information on becoming a volunteer driver for field trips (under the parent info tab). We do need several pieces of information for you to drive on a field trip, and none of them take very long to gather, except the Criminal Records Check (CRC). If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to apply for your CRC. It can take up to 3 weeks to be returned to us, and often times, when a field trip is planned in the classroom, there isn’t enough time to get the CRCs back and fieldtrips can be cancelled. The good news is that it doesn’t cost anything and it doesn’t expire for 5 years. So if you think there is even a remote chance that you could drive on a field trip, please apply now.
